Historic Young Street Terraces in Sydney CBD Leased

Young Street Terraces, the only Sydney CBD buildings that remain from the original site of Government House, have been leased by prominent commercial/insurance law firm AR Conolly and Company Lawyers.

Constructed in 1875, the heritage buildings at 36-38 Young St, Sydney, were leased in a deal negotiated by Ray White Commercial Office Leasing Director Jeremy Piggin on behalf of the Historic Houses Trust of NSW.

Jeremy Piggin said the Young St Terraces were designed and constructed by Joseph Walker.

“They were part of the early development of Sydney Cove and became part of the leading government administrative precinct in the latter half of the 19th century,” he said.

“These terraces, which for almost half a century provided temporary accommodation for nurses from Sydney Hospital, represent an essentially residential form of building which is now rare in the Sydney CBD.

“To have an offering of this kind in the middle of the Sydney CBD financial precinct attracted considerable interest from a variety of prominent industries.

“Many boutique firms looking for office space in the CBD love that heritage feel and sense of charm.”

Jeremy Piggin said the Young Street Terraces are located at the northern area of Sydney’s central business district and are in the Victorian Filigree architectural style.

“The building offers a floor area of approximately 313 sqm and consists of four units, each of three storeys and a basement, interconnected on all floors,” he said.

“The interior detail is largely intact in terms of skirting boards, architraves, doors, windows, staircases and fireplaces.”

AR Conolly and Company Lawyers have taken out a five year lease at a gross rental of $630 per sqm per annum.
